SCHOOL NURSE AT WOODBURY CENTRAL

 Healthy children are optimal learners.

The occurrence of health conditions affecting WC students is similar to occurrences nationwide. Schools educate students with chronic health conditions such as diabetes, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, genetic syndromes, immune disorders, heart problems, asthma, other respiratory problems, seizures, severe food allergies, ADD/ADHD, etc.

Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and substance abuse also affect an increasing number of students.

Woodbury Central's full-time school nurse works with students (TK-12), families, staff and the community to ensure that children's health needs are met so that they can attend school, and be healthy and ready to learn.

As one who provides continuity of health services to students, WC's school nurse administers medications, offers first aid to students, and consults with those involved in the care of students with more severe health conditions and physical limitations. She provides direct nursing care to specific students, care coordination, health record maintenance, and health promotion across the District.

WC's school nurse supervises all staff providing health services to students, and conducts mandated staff trainings such as for bloodborne pathogens and mandatory child abuse reporter. She, as well as the members of WC's Emergency Response Team, responds to emergency situations and offers advanced first aid.

Substitute nurses assist the full-time nurses in provision of services.
