Woodbury Central will have a new elementary principal this year in Amy Gilbert. She will have the official title of Elementary principal, special education coordinator, and equity coordinator.

The 2018-2019 school year will be Gilbert’s 21st year in education and her 9th as a principal. Gilbert has taught in Sioux City as a teacher, literacy coach, assistant principal and principal for the previous 18 years. Gilbert was drawn to Woodbury Central because she was looking for a smaller community with a sense of pride in their students and education. She hopes she is able to get to know the families and traditions of the community.

Gilbert is excited to see the progress of the students this school year and to be a part of the communities. She would describe her teaching and leadership style as highly collaborative. “I like to get others’ input and suggestions before I make a decision.”

She advises students, teachers, and WC employees to have a “can do” attitude this year.

“Not everything is easy, but if you are determined to stick to it, you can accomplish anything!” Gilbert says, “Sometimes, not by yourself, so never hesitate to ask for help!”

Outside of school Ms. Gilbert enjoys running, dancing, exercising, hiking, scrapbooking, cooking, and reading. Gilbert considers herself to be a family person. “I love my family, my son Kellen, my husband Matt, my parents, my sister, and her family. I try to spend time with them when we all have free moments.”
