The Show Stoppers

Woodbury Central School has a show choir team called the Show Stoppers. They are directed and lead by the school’s choir teacher Heather Rollison. There are thirteen students in the show choir team.

On February 16th, the Show Stoppers had their first competition. This was the first among three. The competition was in Spirit Lake and was called Shake the Lakes. The Show Stoppers performance time was at 8:00 am. The team had left the school at 4:45 am. Because of state wrestling and state speech, the team was missing a few members. Despite the early morning and a few missing members, the Woodbury Central Show Stoppers came home with a 2nd place trophy. They are just getting started.

Before the competition Mrs. Rollison was asked a few questions. When asked if the team was ready for the competition, she responded that the believes that they are, in fact, ready. The only concerns that she had were the fact that they were short on boys, and the volume of the team. In show choir you sing and dance to a song with a group and compete with other schools of the district. Rollison is very proud of the team and their connection with each other.

A few members were interviewed after the competition. The team was confident in their preparedness for the competition that had taken place. They were proud that they had nailed the moves and smiled throughout the show. When asked, a member said show choir was “like dance and choir mixed.” Another member stated that “it is a mental break and a physical activity.” I had asked if the team had any advice for any younger children wanting to join the show choir. Their response was, “If you feel jittery or just like to sing and dance, join! But be prepared to work. Also, be confident in what you do!” The Show Stoppers are scheduled to perform for the public the same night as the Choir’s Pop Concert, March 1st.
