Woodbury Central's cheerleading tryouts were held March 5 in the WC school commons for the 2017/2018 school year. The judges were Liz Hanna of Sioux City, Jenny Colbert of Moville, and Erin Hoffman of Kingsley. Many of the girls who auditioned are returning cheerleaders, but new additions to the teams include senior Brooke Bauer; juniors Miah Manker and Louisa Fickbohm; sophomore Sarah Crichton; and freshmen Ava Arment and Laci Hilpipre. Cheerleaders transferring from one WC squad to another include Maddie Blaylock, who was a wrestling cheerleader as a sophomore but will add football to her junior year; and Josie Buckholtz, formerly a basketball cheerleader her junior year, who will also add football cheerleading to her senior year.
“I am very excited for our season next year, I have four returning cheerleaders and four new girls and am excited to have eight very enthusiastic cheerleaders under Friday night lights,” says football cheer coach Jill Stratton. WC's 2017 football cheer squad includes seniors Loryn Nettleton, Casie Petersen, Josie Buckholtz, Brooke Bauer and Abby Petersen; juniors Paytin Stover and Maddie Blaylock; and sophomore Sarah Crichton.
The new basketball cheer squad includes seniors Loryn Nettleton, Casie Petersen, Josie Buckholtz and Brooke Bauer; and juniors Paytin Stover and Miah Manker. “I am thrilled with the determination, effort, and enthusiasm you will see from the basketball cheerleaders next year,” basketball cheer coach Leslie Stover says. “The girls appreciate the support of the coaches, students, and community, and I look forward to a fun-filled, exciting year with the talents we have on our squad.”
The new wrestling cheer squad includes juniors Tori Bates, Maddie Blaylock and Louisa Fickbohm; sophomore Kara Funk; and freshmen Laci Hilpipre and Ava Arment. “I am very excited for next year’s wresting season and the 2017/2018 wrestling cheer squad,” Emily Thomas, the wrestling cheer coach says. “I think we are in great shape with three returning cheerleaders that are great leaders and ready to help our new cheerleaders get ready for the season. There are great things in store for Wildcat wresting.”
