Brandon Stender: Senior Interview

Brandon Stender, a senior, was born in Sioux Falls, SD on June 3, 1999. He has a sister, Erica, who graduated from Woodbury Central who is now 22 years old. His parents are Jodi & Jackie Stender.

Brandon has attended Woodbury Central his whole high school career. He plays football and basketball for Woodbury Central and says he has fun doing both. His best moments of high school were being on the football team senior year and just going to practice and having fun with his friends. He said he was always excited for Friday nights and game day. He also has some embarrassing moments. He says his most embarrassing moment was when Mrs. McElrath made fun of him for missing the easiest question on a test as he was giving someone else a hard time about it. He has some advice to underclassmen and says, “don’t slack.” Brandon plans on going to active duty Air Force next fall, and plans on going to college after that. He has a bright future in front of him.

Brandon says his favorite hobby is working at A&W in Moville because he likes the people he works with. His favorite movie is Step Brothers or almost any movie with Will Ferrell in it. His favorite TV show is “Vampire Diaries” because it is a fictional TV show that caught his attention when he watched his first episode. His favorite artist is Toby Keith because he likes the messages through his music and likes that they are all classics. His favorite food is pizza because it is easy and fast to make.

Senior Interview: Beth Struve

Beth is the daughter of Anne and Jeremy Steffens. She was born on October 12th, 1999. Beth has four siblings, Ezekial, Nenemiah, Dominick, and Trey. She has many kinds of different pets including: 3 dogs, 4 cats, 2 hedgehogs, and 2 fish. Beth will be attending USD for undergraduate school and will be majoring in Kinesiology & Exercise Sciences. After that she plans on attending Physical Therapy school.

 

Her favorite school memory of all time would be her senior year at senior parent night when they threw powdered sugar for the first touchdown celebration. “Although we lost horribly that game, it was really fun and everyone joined in,” she explains. He favorite class in high school was Medical Terminology taught by Mrs. Mac. She says that she planned in going into the medical field, and she was learning a bunch of info that she enjoyed learning about.

 

Beth’s advice for underclassmen would be, “Do something every single day to make that day memorable. Do something to make high school last, hold onto the memories, good or bad. Seniors always told me it went by fast, but I never truly understood how fast high school went by until I became a senior myself. Enjoy it all while it lasts.”

 

 Some interesting things about Beth is that her favorite food is Mozzarella cheese sticks, “because their delicious” she says. Her favorite T.V. show are “How I Met Your Mother”, “Gossip Girl”, “Shameless”, and “American Horror Story”. Her favorite movie would have to be A Dog’s Purpose. “It’s an amazing and heartwarming movie. First time I saw my dad cry,” she recalls. Some of her hobbies include hanging out with Maddie Blaylock and driving around.

Senior Interview: Kyle Rocha

Kyle Rocha is a senior at Woodbury Central. After he graduates he plans on working in a plant as a welder.

Kyle was born December 3, 1999 in Houston Texas. His parents are Hector and Angel, and he has four siblings, Brooke, Hannah, Zac, and Leah. “We used to have a boxer named Abby, she passed away,” Kyle explains.

“Don’t worry if people don’t like you or not,” is Kyle’s advice for all underclassman. “My favorite class was health, because Mrs. Mac is the best,” he said with a smile. “My most embarrassing moment in high school was getting beat by West Sioux 78-8 on senior night,” Kyle explains. He says some of his favorite moments involve seeing Coach Pete during football practice and explains, “Football has been a favorite hobby ever since I was 5 years old.”

Kyle’s favorite movie is Top Gun. “When I was little I'd pretend I was Tom Cruise and watch the movie 5 times a day,” Kyle said. His favorite TV show is “Shameless.” He explains it’s a very different show compared to others. 

“My favorite food is Raising Canes; their Canes sauce is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth,” he explained. His favorite band is “OVO” since that is his nickname.

SENIOR INTERVIEW: Bailey Henschen

Bailey Henschen is a senior at woodbury central. She was born on July 3, 2000 in St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City.

 

She lives her her mom and dad, Leana and Brian Henschen. She also has a brother, Andrew. Her pets are also an important part of her family and she has very different ones, including: cats, dogs, chickens and goats. One of the best memories with her pets was showing her goats at the fair with Carly Meister.

 

Bailey’s favorite movie is Forrest Gump because it makes her feel good after watching it. Her favorite TV show is “Friends” because it’s funny and memorable.

 

One of her favorites hobbies is camping because it’s relaxing. She usually goes camping with a lot of people so everytime she goes she creates new memories.

 

Her favorite band is Zac Brown Band; their music makes her feel good and her favorite memory happened when she had the opportunity to go to a concert of them in Omaha with Katie Ehring.

 

Bailey’s most memorable moment in high school was becoming friends with the foreign exchange students her sophomore year because they taught her a lot about herself and she likes having friends around the world.

 

She plans to go to SDSU to study Animal Science, but she might change her majors. She sees herself in ten years with an interesting job and her own family with dogs.

 

Her advice for the underclassmen is -  “Do what you want and makes you happy. Do not waste energy on irrelevant things or people.”

Patrick Carney
Senior Interview: Patrick Carney

Patrick Carney is a senior at Woodbury Central. After he graduates he plans on going to
USD and majoring in Criminal Justice.
Patrick was born March 2, 2000 in Pontiac, Michigan. His parents are Dave and Bridget,
and he also has one younger sibling, Matt. Patrick has three cats, Taco, Molly and Jellybean.
“Just do you,,” is Patrick’s advice for all underclassmen. “My favorite class was Mr.
Galloway’s history class. My favorite moment in class is that Matt and I would go at it all the the
time,” Patrick said with a smile, “and my most embarrassing moment is when my buddy and I
did the wrong dress up day during homecoming.” He says his most memorable moment was
beating West Sioux in football his junior year. Patrick started football in 4th grade. “My favorite
memory of football is giving it all on the field every game.”
Patrick's favorite movie is Jurassic Park. He says, “it’s a good film with some thrilling
scenes.” His favorite TV show is “Breaking Bad”, because it has a lot of action and it also stars
Bryson Craston. Patrick’s favorite band is the Migos. He explains, “every song is a banger.”



Carly Meister
Senior Interview: Carly Meister

Carly is the daughter of Corey and Gina Meister. She has two brothers named Brady, who is 19, and her other brother named Jack who is 12. She was born on September 18th, at St. Lukes. She plans on attending college at SDSU to major in elementary education. Carly has a dog, cats, goats, rabbits, and chickens. Her favorite animal is a cat. She says,” they are cute and always make me smile.”

Her favorite class in school is Drama with Ms. Heiman because she’s funny and makes class enjoyable. Her most memorable moment in high school was making it to All-State Speech her sophomore year, performing a mime called “ True Colors”. She also recalls qualifying for the Sioux City Relays in the two mile in track sophomore year as well. Her advice for underclassmen is - “Don’t be afraid to express yourself in high school. Be yourself and don’t let other people’s opinions or thoughts hurt or bring you down.”

Some of Carly’s favorite hobbies are dancing, reading, hanging with friends, and playing with her animals. Another fond memory memory was freshman year when she got to go to L.A. and dance at Disneyland. She says, “it was really fun and it’s something that I will never forget.” Her favorite T.V. show is “Drake and Josh” or “ICarly”. She says that they are super funny, and that she could watch them over and over again and not get tired of them. Her favorite band is Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and her favorite song is “ Free Fallin”. Noah Muckey, son of Marie and Rich Muckey, was born on September 29, 1999 in St.
Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City. Noah has three sisters and two brothers. His siblings are Chelsea,
Dylan, Emily, Jacob, and Zoe. He also has a dog named Suki. In ten years, Noah plans to be
starting a family of his own and traveling around to many different places.
Noah is a senior at Woodbury Central. Noah says that his favorite classes are the ones
that Ms. Reinders teaches. Noah says they are his favorite because, “she relates to the kids and
lets the classes have fun while working.” Noah’s most memorable moment from high school is
when Nick Phelps accidentally lit the school on fire. His advice for underclassmen is - “Have
fun, spend time with friends, do something you’ll remember, be fearless, and be happy.” After
graduating, Noah plans on attending Iowa State University and get a degree in Environmental
Science.
Noah says his favorite hobby is playing basketball. He says his mom got him started and
that Matt Widman has kept him interested in it. Matt coached Noah in fourth grade and continues
to coach him in tournaments. Noahs favorite movie is Hot Rod. He explains, “Life’s short...stunt
it.” Noahs favorite food is Little Caesar’s pizza. He says he gets it all the time with his friends.
He quotes his favorite animal as being a, “GOAT - AKA Mr. Stan Galloway.” hi

Senior Interview: Blake Stratton

 

Blake Stratton is a senior graduating this coming May. He was born on January 13, 2000 in Sioux City and lives with his parents Jill and Casey Stratton and two sisters Jacey (20) who is a sophomore in college and Hanna, who is a sophomore at WC.

In his free time he loves to play golf, which he has been playing since he was a little boy. He also enjoys genealogy. He researched his family story when he was 10 years old. He thinks that’s important because if you don’t know who your family is or where they’re from, it’s almost like you don’t know yourself. He explains not knowing your family history is being a leaf that doesn’t know it’s part of the tree.

He has 2 cats whose names are Tornado and Sophia and his favorite animal is a donkey. He likes watching funny movies and series. His favorite TV show is “Whose Line Is It Anyway”, because he thinks it’s a very funny show and it makes him laugh all the time. His favorite movie is “Elf” because he loves the Christmas time.

His favorite band is “The Temptations” because he likes Motown and the 60’s music and his favorite song from the band is ‘My Girl’. His favorite class in school was US History with Mr. Galloway because he’s interested in learning about the history of his country and he says that Mr. Galloway always made learning fun. A great memory for him of this class was when he and Anthony Baird had a mock presidential debate the year of the 2016 election. Blake debated from a Democrat point of view, while Anthony debated as a Republican. His most memorable memory in high school was when he was inducted into the National Honor Society because that shows how hard he worked to get there.His most embarrassing moment in high school was when he ripped his pants two times.

After he graduates he wants to finish his Associate's Degree through WITCC and then transfer somewhere for his last two years to finish a degree in education. Later down the road, he wants to become either a History or Social Science Teacher. In ten years he would like to have a job, be married, and starting a family.

“Work hard from the start and don’t wait to get things done; it only makes things more stressful,” is his advice for underclassmen.


Guy senior

 

Christopher Mandl is a senior at Woodbury Central. Christopher wants to study sports medicine, but is still undecided on what college he wants to attend. “I see myself having a family and a good job,” Christopher explains, when thinking forward ten years.

            Christopher was born September 27, 1999 in Sioux City. His parents are Del and Lisa, and has three older siblings, Jameson, Emily, and Anthony.

            “Don’t take anything you do for granted because you never know when it will be taken away from you,” is Christopher’s advice for the underclassmen. “My favorite class was US History with Mr. Galloway,” he explains, “He always told stories to make class interesting.”

 

Christopher’s most embarrassing moment in highschool was hitting his head on the projector, “I jumped up while playing a game in Ms. Logan’s class,” he said with a smile. “My most memorable moment was beating the undefeated West Sioux football team my junior year.”

One of Christopher’s favorite food is spaghetti. “I could never stop eating it,” he explained.

His hobbies are mainly sports. “I especially love golf. I started golfing at a young age and haven't stopped.”

“My favorite movie is ‘Remember The Titans’ because it is a great football movie and it never gets old,” Christopher explains. “The Office is my favorite TV show; it always makes me laugh.”

Colton Herbold Senior Interview: Colton Herbold

 

Colton Herbold is a senior at Woodbury Central High School. He was born on January 18th, 2000 in Ida Grove, IA. He is the son of Dustin and Jody Herbold and has a younger sister, McKenna, who is a freshman at WC this year.
Colton’s favorite class was history when it was taught by Mr. Galloway. “The way he taught all his classes was just extraordinary. It was almost like he was there when a battle took place. Most history teachers just go over things I already know, but when I walked into Mr. Galloway’s classroom, I knew I would learn something completely new,” says Colton.
His favorite movie it’s Woodlawn It’s a sports movie that combines football, religion, and racial discrimination into one movie. His favorite TV show is “Sons of Anarchy” because of the countless unexpected moments that the show has.
Colton lives in a farm and because of that he has a large variety of animals. He has multiple counts of sheep, goats, and cats, and then he has two Pugs and an Australian Shepherd named Dolly, Elvis and Boomer. Every time he comes from school Boomer receives him as it hasn”t seen Colton in a long time.
His favorite hobby is showing sheep in 4-H, because of the success that comes with it. He has been showing sheep since he was 11 years old, when his mother first introduced him to it. His favorite memory is when his mom and him would come outside to feed the sheep, and his mom would start screaming for the animals, and the lambs would just go nuts because they knew it was his mom that was yelling for them.
Colton’s favorite food is 4-cheese Mac & Cheese, particularly from Applebee’s. Every time his friends and him go out to eat, he always suggests going there for his favorite meal. His most embarrassing moment in high school happened during a football game, when he called a fair catch and he wasn’t even the one returning the punt. Colton’s favorite part of high school is when last year every time he went to lunch he used to scream Teren Davidson’s name as loud as he could and the guy looked at him back with the dumbest look on his face.
After graduating from WC, he is planning on going to the Iowa State University to major in Computer Engineering, and in ten years he sees himself married and living in Oklahoma working as a drone pilot.
His advice for underclassmen is to, “savor every moment you have with your friends.” He then reminisces on his freshmen year and recollects how fast time flies by. Good luck with all your future endeavors, Colton!

joci ofert Senior interview: Joci Ofert

Joci Ofert is the daughter of Nicky Metcalf and Mike Ofertl. She was born in Sioux City, IA on January 6th, 2000. Joci has 6 siblings, two of which are her step siblings named Kylie and Devin. She also has a dog named Max, who she love and adores very much. A memory she has with her dog would be when he dragged her along the gravel and tore her whole knee open.

Joci would like to attend SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota. She wants to major in engineering, and hopes to be a successful engineer in the workforce. Joci’s advice for underclassmen would be to, “Get your homework finished! It’s so important because getting behind is the worst!” Her favorite class is CAD 1, because it’s related to the career field she is interested in. She also made some good friends and learned new techniques in the class.

Some interesting facts about her is that her favorite TV show is “The Walking Dead.” She comments, “I love the storyline and the plot. The characters are amazing too.” Some hobbies she enjoys are drawing, singing, and playing electric guitar. She says, “drawing was my gateway through my childhood. I sing because I enjoy it, and I just recently started playing the electric guitar. I’m a huge 80’s rock fan, so the guitar is amazing to play.” Joci’s favorite band is Mötley Crüe because she “loves their story and their songs are amazing.” Her favorite concerts were KISS, Def Leppard, and Metallica. Her favorite food is steak, but only “seasoned to perfection, and cooked medium rare.”


sean parks Senior Interview: Sean Parks

 

Sean Parks is one of the seniors at the Woodbury Central High School in Moville who will graduate this coming spring. He was born on April April 27, 2000 in Albuquerque in New Mexico. He lives with his parents John and Pam Parks, along with his sister Serina. He also has 5 cats (Miri, Chubbs, Socks, Jemenkins and Sweeps) and 2 horses (Ginger and Bullseye).


His hobbies are playing football, wrestling, speech and theatre and he really likes rugby. A memory for him is when he and Casper (a foreign exchange student from last year) played rugby together for the first time and had a great time and a lot of fun.


He really likes watching movies. Two of his favorite movies are “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” because he loves the comedy and the acting and the other one is “Forrest Gump” because he really likes the story and thinks the acting is fantastic. He also likes watching TV series and his favorite series is “The Office”. He says he could watch every episode without getting bored because it’s really entertaining and he loves the actors.


Sean likes to eat hot wings and he distinctly remembers the first time he ate them. He was eight years old enjoying the Steelers game on TV; he thought they were too spicy, but now he really enjoys them. He also likes sweets, especially ice cream and scotcheroos. His favorite band is Queen because he really likes the music and it puts him in a great mood. He has so many great memories with the songs and his friends.


Sean’s favorite class in school was Mr. Galloway’s US History class because he was a really good teacher and he liked Mr. Galloway’s attitude and energy during the class. He says he learned a lot in this class and it’s a great memory for him. His most memorable moment in High School was homecoming this year, when he and his good friends sang “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen in front of everyone and it was awesome for him. His most embarrassing moment was during his freshman year when he fell off a hayrack during the sales of football cards.


After high school he wants to go to college and study to become an allergist, but he is still exploring his options and deciding on the best fit. He has looked at a lot of different things.

His advice for underclassmen are that they should work hard all four years and shouldn’t get lazy because it will come back and bite you. He also recommends to, “have fun during the years because that will make the work a lot better.”

Zach Thomas Senior Interview: Zach Thomas

 


Zach Thomas is a senior at Woodbury Central. Zach wants to go to DMACC in Ankeny, Iowa and study business after graduating. In 10 years he sees himself selling cars for the biggest Chevy dealer in the nation, Karl Chevy in Ankeny.

Zach was born September 17, 1999 in Sioux City. His parents are Brooke Bleil and Travis Thomas. He has two sisters, Taylor and Ayvrie, and two brothers, Sawyer and Greyson.

“Make an experience out of highschool, it will be as fun as you make it,” Zach explains. One of Zach’s favorite classes was Foods, taught by Mrs. Hanson. “I have always liked cooking,” Zach says. Zach doesn't really get embarrassed, but something close to the feeling is when he air balled a half court shot.

One of Zach’s favorite foods is his mother's lasagna. “It is the best lasagna I've ever eaten. When I was younger my mother would make me lasagna when I was upset, and then I would be happy after that,” Zach said with a smile.

Zach’s favorite singer is Post Malone; “he’s pretty ugly but he has a great voice.” His favorite movie is Good Burger because all the funny jokes you can get out of it and you can watch it at any time of day, Zach explains. Prison Break is his favorite TV show. He says, “I watch it at the beginning of every summer and it never gets old.”

“There are too many memorable moments in highschool to choose from, but the best ones are the ones you can think back on years later and still laugh about them.

Senior Interview:  Zechariah Polkinghorn

Zechariah Polkinghorn is a senior at Woodbury Central. Zach was born April 4, 2000. His parents are Shelby and Jeff; his three siblings are Charlie, Jake, and Amanda.

Zech’s favorite high school memories involve playing the game “Agario” in shop class with his friends. “My most memorable moment was being Willy the Wildcat and having children give me hugs and highfives,” he said with a smile. “My most embarrasing moment was getting a ISS for making an inappropriate hand gesture.”

Zech’s favorite singers are Marc E. Bassey and G-Eazy. “They are really good when they rap together,” Zech said. “I have been to a Mac Miller concert, too, and that was really fun.”

“My favorite movie is Step Brothers, I’ve learned every word in that movie,” Zech explained. “Nobody wants to watch the movie with me because I'll just quote the whole movie,” Zech says. He also explains his favorite show is “Vampire Diaries, because, “once the girls know you like the show, then the girls will like you.” In ten years, Zech sees himself being successful and “on the verge of 1 billion dollars.” Good luck to Zech in the future!

Senior Interview: Abby Petersen

Abby Petersen is one of the seniors at Woodbury Central. She was born on December 21, 1999 at Mercy hospital in Sioux City. She lives with her parents, Jen and Tim Petersen, and her two brothers Matt and Drew and their three cats Jax, Piper and Daisy.


In her free time, she enjoys running, tumbling and baking. Her friends got her out for track when she was a freshman and when she was a junior she was the district champion in the 100 meter dash. She joined competitive cheer team when she was six years old, and since then her love for tumbling grew. She started herself on baking and she really enjoys it. She says, “it’s fun and I love the ending result.”


Her favorite movie is 8 Seconds which is about Lane Frost and his career in PBR. She likes the movie because it’s based on true events and it has a great background story. Her favorite TV Show is “Grey's Anatomy,” especially because she is interested in the medicine field.


She enjoys listening to a lot of bands, but one of her concert memories is when she went to a Brantley Gilbert, Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney concert in Kansas city. Abby’s favorite food is sushi, because she likes seafood. She comments, “it’s an extra bonus because it’s healthy!”


Her favorite class in high school was Advanced Biology because she’s really interested in the human body. In her four years of high school, her most memorable moment was when she won the district meet in the 100 meter dash.


She usually stays in her comfort zone so she doesn’t has a lot of embarrassing moments during her high school years, but she does recall every Friday, while cheering, she always did the wrong number of jumping jacks when the football team scored!


After she graduates, she wants to attend a four year university to run track or cheer and study nursing for her BSN. She plans to further her education by attending a physician assistant program. After she graduates from P.A. school, she wants to work as a physician’s assistant in family health. She wants to move back to Moville to start a family.


A piece of advice for underclassmen -  she says “Don’t take high school for granted. Go to that basketball game, and go to that track meet. You will never get the chance to support your classmates again. It goes by faster than you think. Enjoy the time because soon it will become memories.”

Senior Interview Casie Petersen

Casie Petersen was born on April, 3rd 1999 in Sioux City. She lives with her parents Bart Petersen and Amy Dietrich, her twin brother Colt and her two sisters Charlee and Amber.

She has two house cats named Fluffy and Fatty which have been a part of the family for the last ten years. A fond memory for her is when her and her sister dressed them in doll clothes. She also has an dog named T-Bone.


In her free time, she really likes to dance. She’s been doing this since she was three years old! A great memory involving dancing was the year when she danced with her little sister Amber at the fair during the talent show. She comments, “I really enjoyed sharing this experience with my little sister.”

Her favorite types of movies are Hallmark and Nicholas Sparks movies. She enjoys the Hallmarks movies because they always seem to have  happy endings. She especially enjoys watching those movies during Christmas and holiday season. Her favorite TV show is “Grey’s Anatomy” and “The Good Doctor”. She finds it interesting to watch the doctors perform surgeries and tasks.


Advanced Biology was her favorite class in high school. She says, “it  was really interesting and fun doing the labs and projects, and I also likes learning about anatomy and physiology of the human body.” After graduating she will attend the University of South Dakota majoring in Health Science with a minor in Pre-med. After undergrad, she wants to specialize in Pediatrics so she will either attend PA or medical school.


Her most memorable moment during  high school years was cheering at football and basketball games.  She also enjoyed putting tattoos on elementary students for Football Fridays.


Her advice for underclassmen is: Always be nice and leave a positive impact on others. Why this is important to me is because when I was an underclassmen, the upperclassmen weren’t the best examples  and I always remember how they treated me. I am always reminded of that and I want people to remember me in a positive way.”
