Welcome to Mrs. Manker's Homepage!
I graduated from Wayne State College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. I received my special education license from the University of Minnesota, and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Wayne State College.

My teaching career began in Edina, Minnesota. I was a high school special education teacher in a 10th-12th grade high school with 1200 students for four years. Before coming to Woodbury Central, I spent two years in Sioux City at East High School. In 2005, I was fortunate enough to find a position at my Alma mater.

Several years ago, I heard a guest speaker talk to a group of teachers about motivating ourselves as well as our students. He shared a personal story about his son interviewing for a job. He told his son that if he did these 10 things, the company would have no choice but to hire him over the other competitors. His son got the job. I tell this story to my students and at first get some mixed responses. However, if there is ever the occasion that someone is not following one or more of the expectations, it is easy enough to point to the list of 10 items and remind them of how they are expected to behave in my room and in life.

Here are the 10 expectations for my classroom:
1. Be Here
2. Be on Time
3. Be Friendly
4. Be Polite
5. Be Prepared
6. Be a Listener
7. Be a Do-er
8. Be a Quality Worker
9. Be a Positive Risk Taker
10. Be a Success!

I truly believe that if all students follow these expectations, they will be a success not only in school but in life.
